I record most of my day with an Insta360 GO Ultra, powered by a no-brand powerbank I keep in my pocket. This amounts to 200-300GB raw/day (but a lot less after re-encoding). I offload the data overnight to a pair of drives I always carry around, and Hetzner Storagebox.
I embed every second of every video with SigLIP + do basic classification with a VLM of what I'm doing in specific segments. This makes it searchable, and I've been playing around with (re)surfacing moments automatically (think SRS but for life events).
Focus
Beeminder has shaped my habits more than anything else. I started using it in 2024 after reading a blog post by Andy Matuschak, and it helped me get through really unpleasant phases in my life (e.g. thesis writing). I don't need to use it as much anymore (my work is pleasant), but it's the best tool I've found to stay accountable.
For everything else I rely on blocking. I don't have unrestricted access to much of the Internet, all such websites use a shared daily quota. This works quite well! I'm also locked out of my laptop overnight so I don't mess up my sleep.
Computer
I have an M4 Macbook Air with AeroSpace for tiling, and a custom fork of sketchybar. Each project gets its own workspace group (I have N workspace groups each with 8 workspaces). I'll switch off of MacOS the moment Linux works on my hw (though I'm not optimistic about Asahi), or if another OEM manages to produce a laptop with functioning sleep and battery.
I mainly work within my fork of Ghostty which adds persistent sessions and vertical tabs. Terminals are assigned to workspace groups and by default don't leak between the groups. They restore after restart (!). I also use the Codex desktop app.
Computer (small)
I use a stripped down S23 with a minimal launcher. I don't have access to a browser or the playstore, so please be patient with me...
